Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Interior Designer to work on a variety of projects that will utilize your experience in corporate, commercial, higher education and mixed-use. This role will be based in our Washington, DC office.

This position is expected to begin June 26, 2023.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for initiating and developing design and construction document drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project’s discipline engineers.

  • Under minimal supervision, develops complex interior design drawings.

  • Exercises sound judgment in assessing problem situations or complex design issues, and uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.

  • Reviews vendor documents for accuracy and resolves discrepancies. Also reviews discipline supplier documents and other discipline’s supplier documents for accuracy.

  • Understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management and reviews/advises on purchase orders and subcontracts.

  • Applies business development concepts and principles, financial terminology and measures, and provides support for proposals.

  • Leads or assists with the development of manpower, man-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff and monitors data to aid in evaluating the budget.

  • Utilizes knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs thorough and accurate material take-offs and forecasting.

  • Navigates the project change control process, rationale and requirements, and identifies potential changes.

  • Gains full understanding of the discipline’s equipment and material lists and instructs others in their use and requirements.

  • Prepares designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.

  • Provides technical guidance and assistance to Designers and Technicians.

  • Reviews completed work with design and drafting personnel responsible for its completion to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes and design data.

  • Advises the Interior Design Director/Leader about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems.

  • Assists with the planning and scheduling of design tasks associated with assigned project.

  • Assists in interpreting industry codes, permits, and standards, and ensures design and drawing compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design (CIDA accredited institution) or Architecture degree with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the field of Interior Design or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite programs.

  • Extensive Revit knowledge.

  • Portfolio submission required to demonstrate skill set.

  • Eight (8) years + of experience preferred.

  • Clearance preferred. This role may require a clearance in the future, due to the nature of the role.

  • Licenses, and/or certifications preferred: National Council of Architectural Review Boards (NCARB), and/or National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ)

  • Experience working in corporate interior design projects.

  • Working knowledge of the application of color, materials, and aesthetic form.

  • Familiarity with space planning methodology.

  • Working knowledge of contract interiors FF&E market including manufacturers and dealers, and basic experience documenting FF&E specifications

  • Basic sketching and rendering skills.

  • Basic interior architecture detailing skills.

  • Working knowledge of CDs and procedures, including MEP coordination.

  • Commitment to support projects through peaks and valleys.

  • Internship in ID or Architectural firm a plus.

  • Ability to work on multiple, fast-paced projects and documents.

  • Basic knowledge of building codes, standards, and building structures

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $73,000.00 - $104,000.00.
