AECOM Senior Mechanical Project Engineer in Thornhill, Ontario

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking to employ a highly talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical discipline in the design of two subway station as part of the TTC Downtown Relief Line project from our Markham, ON office. AECOM is undertaking the design of some of the most challenging elements of the Relief Line project with two interchange subway stations being design beneath the existing Line 1 stations. This is a rare opportunity to start your career with AECOM on one of the most high profile projects in Ontario for the last number of years. As the project is in its infancy at present the successful candidate will have the freedom to determine and influence the conceptual direction of the project from the outset, rather than join midway through the project and be required to take ownership of concepts developed by a previous engineer.

The successful candidate will

  • have led a team of engineers and designers in the mechanical design of building related projects,

  • be responsible for breaking down the project scope and assigning the tasks required to the wider mechanical team;

  • be confident and self-assured so as to act as the primary coordination point for mechanical related issues with the project team and client;

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • A key member of the mechanical design team responsible for leading the mechanical design for a multi-million project, from design through construction;

  • Provide conceptual design at the early stages of the project and develop the concept to high quality detailed design, co-ordinate with all disciplines;

  • Strong knowledge and experience in designing HVAC, Controls, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems

  • Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using standard industry programs (i.e. Carrier HAP)

  • Working understanding of industry codes such as OBC, NFPA, CSA, etc.

  • Perform calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, and field investigations

  • Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards

  • Write/ edit mechanical specifications

  • Travel to construction sites to conduct mechanical inspections and prepare reports

  • Project management experience including budget control and interdisciplinary coordination

  • Prepare written reports and deliver results in a clear manner to technical or non-technical audience

  • Under minimal supervision, performs complex duties utilizing advanced techniques and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and methods.

  • Assumes lead responsibilities for a team of engineers and professional support staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario

  • 10+ years of experience in the Buildings Engineering Industry

  • Strong Consulting Industry background in Canada

  • Transit related experience will be a significant asset

  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC and controls systems

  • Design knowledge in Plumbing and Fire Protection systems

  • Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment

  • Very strong communication skills, spoken and written; good presentation skills

  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
