Job Description

AECOM  is seeking a talented and highly motivated Public Relations Manager to support a significant utility program for a key client in our Southern California-based Energy business line.

The successful candidate should be a highly experienced, dynamic, self-directed individual. The candidate will need strong technical, organizational and communication skills to ensure projects meet communications objectives. This is a multifaceted role that will be responsible for directing internal and external communications efforts for a long-term, high-profile program. The successful candidate will be an expert communications strategist that will serve in a core functional role for the program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide manager-level oversight of internal and external communications teams on a large, complex energy program

  • Manage public engagement and communications employees in developing and administering internal (e.g., employees, subcontractors) and external (e.g., agency, tribal, community) stakeholder outreach and communications programs

  • Responsible for ensuring client satisfaction with communications and community outreach services

  • Oversee communications team’s efforts to ensure successful implementation and development of events, print and graphic materials, and program messaging as scoped, providing direction as needed

  • Serve as liaison to internal and external leadership and executive committee on extensive communications program

  • Serve as liaison between technical and communications teams to ensure consistent messaging to the public and key stakeholders

  • Lead implementation of select stakeholder engagement and communication strategies, including meeting organization and facilitation

  • Identify opportunities to cultivate client relationships and expand our service offerings

  • Oversee contract administration

  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, mentoring, development, and retention of staff. Includes but not limited to development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession planning.

DCS—Energy

AECOM’s Energy practice provides a wide range of services from consulting and engineering design to energy engineering, energy procurement and construction (EPC) for power, energy efficiency, and renewable energy clients. Our understanding of the big picture – and the interconnection between generation, distribution, storage, and the demand side of the meter – allows us to deliver holistic strategies that improve and modernize next generation energy infrastructure. We connect knowledge and experience across our global framework to bring together a unique combination of engineers, planners, scientists, and project managers who advance cleaner, secure, and more sustainable energy solutions. 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in communications, english, marketing, planning, public relations, or a related discipline with minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, including 4 years of leadership experience

  • Experience providing consultant services to municipalities and/or utilities for communications and community outreach programs

  • Experience planning and executing strategic communications programs

  • As a condition of employment, candidates must pass a drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years of relevant experience

  • Director-level experience with strategic communications programs in San Diego County

  • Direct experience serving as lead facilitator in contentious community meetings

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in public and stakeholder engagement

  • Experience in relevant areas such as utility programs, renewable energy, capital projects, decarbonization, and/or sustainability

  • Spanish language capabilities is a plus

  • Familiarity with San Diego region and local entitites

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $150,000.00 - $170,000.00.
