Job Summary


  • Ensure that projects are delivered within the client budget and schedule; ensure that projects are delivered with the agreed fee and the stated profit.

  • Provide technical leadership on project level

  • Project Scheme design and review of Detail Design.

  • Conduct Design and Drawing reviews to ensure accurate implementation of the scheme design into Detail Design and from Detail Design to Drawings.

  • Ensure the implementation of the AECOM PDS on Project Level.

Project Management :

  • Interface with clients on schedules, meetings and issues (manage client expectations).

  • Advise senior management of the project status on a regular basis.

  • Anticipate potential schedule or priority delays and initiate plans for alternative actions

  • Ensure that project managers carry out all related Project Management Duties as set out in the MAP guidelines. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Project Execution,

  • Project Deadlines,

  • Client Communication,

  • Team Utilization,

  • EAC Updating,

  • Billings,

  • Collections,

  • Following the “Project Management Calendar”.

  • Responsible for facilitating, promoting and carrying out internal interaction (Where so required for a project):

  • Coordination with other Discipline Leads,

  • Coordination with other Disciplines & End Markets.

Business Development:

  • General:

  • Identify and lead key pursuits, develop successful win strategies and close the largest, most complicated and iconic projects.

  • Lead client relationship/business development activities through early interaction, “scope of work” development, interviews, and on-going client maintenance interface.

  • Develop and lead key account strategy to achieve aggressive growth goals. Responsible for developing market sector intelligence including industry assessment, trends in key markets and client opportunities for investment and winning work.

  • Work with other practice leaders to develop AECOM’s competitive positioning strategy.

  • Provide leadership to business development and key client account managers in developing win strategies, go/no-go plans and closing sales.

  • Develop and manage marketing plans and budgets.

  • Manage the business development pipeline including generating enough leads to achieve annual wins targets and long term growth goals. Assist Business Unit Lead with delivery of Overall Plan and EBITA numbers including adherence with minimum DSO days targets.

Tenders, Bids & Proposals:

  • Depending on the size and complexity of the opportunity, lead, prepare and / or give input with respect to:

  • Pre-Positioning,

  • Kick off meeting,

  • Team Establishment of the bid team,

  • Liaising and integration with the S&G team,

  • Obtaining Go-No-go approval stages 1 to 3,

  • Ensure capturing of the opportunity on Salesforce, including Fee split between End Markets,

  • Developing of a bid and project execution Program,

  • Technical Write-up’s and Methodologies,

  • Man Plan & Pricing.

  • Team Responsibilities

  • Assist Business Unit Lead with Resourcing requirements, Managing of Outstanding Accounts Receivable and management / delivery of EBITA targets.

  • Lead a large complement of junior, mid-level and senior Structures staff and provide mentorship, direction and motivation on a daily basis and in a strategic manner to ensure AECOM remains an employer of choice for Structural skills.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Approval of your Teams timesheets of team leaders prior to the cut-off time while ensuring that time is being booked accurately in terms of duration and to the right projects.

  • Responsible for Leave Approval of your direct reports.

  • Input into staff performance and development on a continuous basis as well as to Monitor & Motivate your team with respect to Moral.

  • Performance and Rewards:

  • Assisting with the setting of Goals,

  • Track progress of Goals,

  • Assist with the scoring of your team members.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of related experience including significant time in a supervisory role.

  • Demonstrable track record in managing the delivery of very large institutional projects.

  • Demonstrate track record in winning new work from both new and existing clients

Personal attributes and skills required:

  • Ability to develop key and trusted client relationships that can lead to new business quickly.

  • Demonstrated skills and track record in marketing and business development, including market strategy development, competitive assessment, market positioning and market strategy execution.

  • Proven strategic skills; experienced with the development and execution of business and marketing strategies.

  • Experience influencing and managing senior level stakeholders.

  • Excellent presentation and sales skills with proven ability to influence and persuade, particularly in relation to closing major project deals

  • Experienced and solid network in the design and planning industry

  • Recognized as Buildings +Places industry expert who would bring added credibility at critical stages of the closing process

  • Expert communicator; solid verbal, written and interpersonal skills to engage and mobilize firm to embrace marketing strategy.

  • Effective negotiation and dispute resolution skills, analytical and decision-making.

  • Liaison and consultative skills applied within a context of political sensitivity and conflicting interests; includes the view of others in decisions.

  • Demonstrated collaborative skills, both internally and externally.

  • Ability to advise on complex matters to non-specialists.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering

  • Professionally registered with ECSA
