Job Summary

Contingent on award of contract, AECOM is seeking an Industrial Project Planner for our new maintenance team at a 24/7 corn processing facility in the heart of central Illinois!

  • Typical work hours are 7:00am – 4:00pm; hours may vary based on business demand.

  • This position travels to and interacts with AECOM offices and client sites as required.

This Project Planner is responsible for researching and defining scope, outlining scope, creating project plans, scheduling and facilitating status meetings, managing quotes, responding to work delays, managing project from conception to completion, and managing multiple projects at one time.

The Project Planner ensures the safety and well-being of its employees, safeguarding company funds and property, and generally represents AECOM in the field with respect to the client.


  • Research and define scope.

  • Outline scope by collaborating with client, engineers, technicians, etc.

  • Read blueprints and technical documents to prepare project plan.

  • Schedule and facilitate status meetings with customer during planning phase.

  • Influence, develop and control budget, costs, staff and vendors by planning, scheduling, implementing processes and drafting procedures.

  • Utilize strong organizational and problem solving skills and creative thinking to introduce and manage change in order to achieve continuous improvement.

  • Develop design criteria. Prepare and review plans, specifications, AutoCad drawings and schedules to determine work phases and work priorities.

  • Comply with legal requirements.

  • Create and manage RFQ’s and labor hours.

  • Manage purchase order.

  • Maintain records and documentation for all aspects of the project.

  • Measure on time and quality results.

  • Respond to work delays.

  • Create communications plan.

  • Maintain personal contact with project task owners to insure success.

  • Run daily startup meetings.

  • Work proactively to identify potential project problems or opportunities, analyze these issues using appropriate resources, and develop and implement optimum alternatives.

  • Develop and recommend long-range goals and short-range objectives as well as plans and practices to produce optimum results. Direct day-to-day soft services operations to attain established goals and objectives. Monitor safety, quality, schedule, and cost performance against approved plans.

  • Clearly understand AEOM scope of work and contract requirements for the area of responsibility.

  • Support AECOM management as the designated AECOM agent for all discussions and negotiations with customers.

  • Supports or conducts formal presentations to clients and/or management.

  • Works independently (i.e. with minimal supervision) as well as within the context of a team environment.

  • Understands and complies with all Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Five years of experience in industrial equipment maintenance and operations used in continuous flow processes, including maintenance supervision, job planning and project management.

  3. Valid driver’s license.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Some tasks will require the ability to walk extensively throughout facilities during a workday.

  • Requires the ability to climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at times.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, kneel, and squat at times.

  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.

  • Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access data bases, to send/receive messages and to prepare documents.

  • Requires ability to attend meetings throughout the site and potentially travel to other AECOM, customer and/or vendor locations in the area, as well as some air travel to more distant locations.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.

  • Requires some moving of light to medium weight materials into desks, filing cabinets and other storage locations.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Project management certification, such as a CPM.

  2. Demonstrated project estimating and project management skills, including bidding process/contractor selection, client relationships, technical report writing and presenting, project tracking and reporting.

  3. Experience and ability to apply project management software such as MS Project or Primavera

  4. Experience as a General Contractor, in light construction, or with vendor management.

Other Attributes:

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
