Job Summary

AECOM has an opening for an Environmental Planner II. The candidate will assist senior project managers and task leaders with environmental clearance of multiple concurrent projects, primarily roadway transportation projects. Work will include interaction with representatives from cities and counties; the California Department of Transportation; and local, regional, state, and federal agencies.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Research, writing, and impact analysis for a wide range of CEQA and NEPA documents;

  • Schedule and budget controls;

  • Subconsultant and technical staff management;

  • Quality assurance/quality control;

  • Environmental permitting support;

  • Document assembly and review; and

  • Meeting coordination and moderation.

This position is ideal for a candidate with strong research and analytical abilities; exceptional attention to detail; excellent writing and communication skills; and interest in the technical areas of traffic, noise, and/or air quality. The candidate will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibilty, including the ability to transition into project management, interact directly with clients, and develop new work.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher, in environmental planning, environmental science, English or journalism, or a related degree or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Knowledge of state and federal environmental laws and regulatory requirements governing surface transportation and other civil infrastructure projects.

At least two years of experience supporting the preparation of environmental documents

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of experience writing and coordination of CEQA and/or NEPA documents and supporting technical documentation.

Ability to work independently and on teams, taking direction from Senior Project Managers, as well as direct staff to perform work.

Exposure to management of environmental projects including client interaction and schedule and budget controls.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.
