Job Summary

The Rail Systems Group is actively seeking a creative, highly talented OCS (Catenary) Engineer for immediate employment in the New York City office. The appropriately qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to perform design calculations, learn and apply new material efficiently, and support the Rail Systems Group during design and construction projects. We are proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects, including design and construction of new light rail and streetcar systems across the US and Canada (Detroit, Charlotte, Oklahoma City, and Seattle currently). Typical projects also include design for local commuter rail systems such as Amtrak, Metro North and New Jersey Transit.

Responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Exercise limited judgment to accomplish assigned tasks

  • Prepare calculations requiring the application of relevant codes and standards

  • CAD work in AutoCAD and MicroStation

  • BIM/Revit design

  • Participate in project working meetings and take meeting minutes

  • Assist with cost estimating for design and construction

  • Assist with responding to construction submittals

  • Assist with inspections at project sites (around the country)

  • Edit, and format technical reports and specifications

  • Ad hoc tasks, including assisting our Traction Power Engineers

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

2+ years of experience

EIT or ability to obtain EIT within 6 months of hire

Interest in Electrified Rail Transportation

Basic drafting skills in AutoCAD, MicroStation and BIM/Revit

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Able to travel, less than 10% of time

Valid US Driver’s License

Qualified Applicants who are offered a position may have to pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with steel, concrete, and foundation design

Experience applying design codes

Experience conducting research

Experience with industry standard analysis software, specifically SAP, RISA-3D, LPile

Technical report writing

Coding with VBA (Visual Basic)

Basic understanding of simple electrical circuits
