Job Description

AECOM Mississauga is looking for a Civil Railway Construction Specialist, to work on a client site based in the Greater Toronto Area for Railway related Contract Administration of projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Be resident at the place of work (on site) and work independently under the general direction of the Contract Administrator.

  • Work with the Client team, provide construction expertise and support to Client’s Project teams and various internal stake holders to, review of work plan methodology submissions, review safety documentation and permits and coordinate rail corridor and site access.

  • Manage the Construction Contract Administration assisting the Senior Contract Administrator.

  • Chair, record and distribute minutes for all meetings associated with the project.

  • Review and make technical recommendations regarding the work, the contractor’s quality of work, construction progress, schedule, payment application, requests for supplemental instruction, change orders, change directives, Environmental Compliance, substantial performance and total performance of the work, claims, prepare reports, manage resolution of issues, review compliance for substantial completion and final completion for projects.

  • Ensure that timely analysis and recommendation are provided to the client for all issues including, but not limited to, extension of time requests, cost estimates, Change Order, claims, diaries of construction activities, delays, progress of works, quantity verification, progress and final payment certification, negotiations, change proposals, Environmental Compliance, technical support, design, and construction problems encountered.

  • Provide weekly and monthly, and daily, reports including site photos summarizing progress and identifying issues to be forwarded to the client.

  • Coordinate and carry out inspections during construction of the work of the task to verify compliance in accordance with contract documents.

  • Provide oversight of Contractor’s construction activities, schedule, logistics, site access, site conditions, utilities, health and safety, environment, project interfaces, operations and maintenance, design and document assurance, site assurance and testing, commissioning and asset handover as required.

  • Provide site presence throughout construction by regular daytime, nighttime, and weekend site visits if required.

  • Oversee the safe delivery of construction and maintenance projects in compliance with Client policies, procedures, systems, resources, and deliverables to ensure the safety and protection of the public, employees and contractors.

  • Engage in integrated planning process providing constructability advice / guidance, involve in Integrated Route Planning process and utilize necessary tools provided by Client as required.

  • Participate in communications with relevant teams and stakeholders to understand requirements for work plans to ensure construction and maintenance projects are developed, implemented, and integrated consistently, efficiently, safely, and in a coordinated manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Technical Diploma + 4 years relevant experience in inspection of heavy civil work in supervising construction sites, field engineering, site work inspections.

  • Valid Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering

  • Ideally 15 + years of experience in inspection of heavy civil works.

  • Demonstrated on-site construction contract administration experience in construction of transit, commercial and municipal infrastructure including but not limited to transit stations, parking structures, parking, track, signals, bridges, grade separations, tracks, underground tunnels and rehabilitation of transit facility building projects.

  • P.Eng. or an E I T Ontario, designation is an asset.

  • CET ON is an asset

  • Experience working in the railway right of way for Class 1 railway is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $70,000.00 - $110,000.00.
