AECOM is currently recruiting an Associate Director - Bridge Engineering to join our centrally located Manchester office, which has an established track record of successfully delivering major transport (Highways and Rail) schemes.
Our Manchester office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for more than 25 years mainly in Manchester but also throughout the UK. Our office, located at the heart of Manchester City Centre, has multi-disciplinary transportation assessment and design capability in rail and highway schemes and works closely with other disciplines from the Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Development Sectors.
A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
Warrington West Station – AECOM are currently undertaking the detailed design of a new station between Warrington Central and Sankey for Penketh stations. The track at this location is in a cutting and the station has a footbridge that provides access between the station building at the top of the cutting, lift shafts and the platforms. AECOM are currently providing different technical engineering services ranging from structural, civil, architecture, geotechnical, M&E, and CCTV.
Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) – AECOM has recently achieved 1st place on Lot 2- Highways & Highway Structures. We believe that this is potentially the key route to market for a number of the GM authorities where our Manchester office should be able to provide valuable technical engineering services such as inspections, assessments, remedial work and design to these authorities in the North West.
Halifax project – Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council are investing £41m into to road improvements and regeneration of Halifax town centre. As part of these works, we are currently designing a number of new retaining walls that are required for the new highway boundary lines and also the widening of a number of bridges.
A38 Derby Junctions – A38 Derby Junction involves improvement of three roundabout junctions: Little Eaton, Markeaton and Kingsway roundabouts around Derby on the A38 between the M1 to the north and Lichfield to the south. The total length of the proposed scheme is approximately Kms. The scheme proposals involve grade-separating each of the junctions, increasing the number of lanes between Kingsway and Kedleston Road from 2 to 3 in each direction, increasing the speed limit between Kingsway and Kedleston Road from 40mph to 50mph.
The scheme involves approximately 10 bridge structures, 2 culvert extensions and 13 retaining walls.
Hulton Park Bridges – working with Peel to provide technical support ranging from feasibility study through to the detailed design of a number of bridges.
As an Associate Director – Bridge Engineering, you will have the following daily responsibilities:
Undertake and project-manage bridge engineering schemes from feasibility through to detailed design.
Responsible for production through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation.
Analysis and detailed design of road/rail bridges and other structures.
Inspection, assessment and strengthening of road/rail bridges and other structures.
Client liaison and the production of tenders, including quality documentation and costings.
Project Management including program and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
Mentoring graduate engineers in their progress to Charteredship.
Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
Significant experience of leading project teams, including major project multidisciplinary teams, developing a range of bridge and other associated structures scheme solutions from initial concept through to detailed design for implementation.
The role will suit a self-motivated individual looking to lead teams and to advance their career both technically and in project management in a dynamic structures team of around 15 engineers and technicians.
Experience with bridge and related structural inspection for assessment and design schemes.
Significant experience in road and rail bridge projects.
Experience in producing feasibility study and coming up with efficient viable solution including solving engineering problems at high level
High level technical skills in design, assessment and current inspection.
Previous exposure with clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors.
Ability to manage staff and project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent.
Must be a Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE.
