Job Summary

As AECOM’s next Principle Electrical Engineer in London you will support major design and construction projects including performing electrical engineering analysis and design, establishing project design requirements, design criteria, and estimating assumptions, supporting construction and commissioning efforts, interfacing with clients customers, consultants, and construction firms.

The successful candidate will be working towards Chartership, and have proven design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with an electrical engineering / building services degree, who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and looking to advance their career.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will manage a team of Electrical Engineers and oversee the design and delivery process of assigned projects.

Job responsibilities:


  • Contribute to successful project completion by providing technical services in accordance with project time and quality.

  • Input to pre-qualification and selection of contractors, respond to tender queries, comment and review tender returns.

  • Identify and meet effectively the requirements and expectations of clients.

Drafting, modelling, reports and calculations

  • Maintain, enhance and apply both design and technical knowledge ensuring production of high quality drawings.

  • Preparation of electrical design calculations, drawings, specifications, and tender documents.

  • Electrical design of lighting, HV & LV supply and small power distribution, earthing and lightning protection, fire and voice alarm systems, telecommunication services, low current and extra low voltage services, automatic controls, BMS as well as other related electrical utility systems as assigned.

  • Participate in the design progress and coordination meetings.

  • Prepare specifications, schedules, drawings and any other contract documents developed through the RIBA work stages.

  • Prepare outline scheme report / technical content of the design information.

Act as an expert and key point of contact internally and externally

  • Coordination with other discipline engineers as applicable for the continuity of the design process

  • Attend progress, design team and coordinate meetings

  • Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants for the design to proceed.

  • Attend tender / client interviews. Attend site inspection meetings.

  • Liaise with clients, professional organizations, contractors, suppliers, sub-contractors and other design.

Quality assurance

  • Ensuring adherence to Corporate Standards.

  • Ensuring that all activities are performed in a safe manner and comply with AECOM’s OH&S requirements.

  • Ensuring the relevant QA procedures are followed.

  • Maintain, develop and retain the highest appropriate standard of technical skill.

  • Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Program.

Minimum Requirements

  • A BEng(Hons) Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering is required. An MSc would be preferable as a requirement to Chartered Engineer status.

  • Relevant experience in design and delivery of projects within the consulting industry (preferable).

  • Ideally you will have a track record in the design of electrical systems on a variety of building projects, i.e. retail, mixed-use developments, hospitality, healthcare, offices and industrial.

  • Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.

  • Commit to continual professional development and learning on relevant technological, business and human relationship matters

  • Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.

  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, able to inspire, influence and negotiate.

  • Able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.

  • Excellent report writing skills, experience of making presentations and attending meetings with clients is essential.

Technical experience required:

  • Amtech Pro Design – Electrical Design Software

  • Dialux and/or Dialux Evo – Lighting Design Software

  • Revit

  • AutoCAD

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
