Job Summary

AECOM is currently recruiting for an experienced Maritime Engineers to join our well-established and experienced Maritime team in our Liverpool office. We would consider a range of experience levels from Engineer to Principal Engineer level to join our team.

The ideal candidate will be seeking a challenging and diverse role. They will be a key member of the team, assisting the company in increasing its market share of the Ports & Marine and coastal consultancy business, including the effective delivery of its current portfolio of projects and contributing to bids for new work within an existing team of engineers.

As a Senior Maritime Engineer, you will ideally be chartered, you will have proven design, planning and project management experience delivering Maritime and coastal projects to quality, time and budget. You will have experience of working as part of project teams developing a range of engineering scheme solutions from initial concept through to detailed design for implementation. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team.

As a Senior Maritime Engineer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Working as the design and/or planning lead on various maritime projects globally, including container terminals, mining/bulk, oil/gas, marinas, ports and harbours, breakwaters and sea defences and coastal studies.

  • Managing projects and assisting with bids and tenders, as well as providing technical QA.

  • Working with clients to define their requirements and discuss progress.

  • Liaising with colleagues on port planning, geotechnics, civil and structural design and environmental issues.

  • Occasional short to medium term site visits (UK and Overseas) may also become necessary depending on project requirements.

  • Working with relevant planning codes, legislations and standards such as BS6349, PIANC, OCIMF.

  • Assisting with business development and preparation of tenders.

  • Supporting Graduate Engineers and providing mentorship to new members of staff.

  • Our global team of some 500+ Ports & Marine specialists have the technical skills and experience to address any form of maritime project. We support a wide range of maritime developments including container terminals, waterfront developments, cruise and ferry terminals, marinas and fishing harbours and military ports.

The UK Ports & Marine teams based in Basingstoke, London, Liverpool and Glasgow offices have an established track record of successfully delivering maritime and cosatal services to port owners/operators, contractors and transportation agencies. Our maritime experience includes port planning, port economics and due diligence, engineering and design, construction supervision, transactions and financial advisory services for clients in Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa. Our team of maritime specialists provide a fully integrated service and have the technical skills and experience to address a wide range of maritime developments.

Recent projects have included the propsoed Isle of Mann Ferry Terminal, UIG Ferry Terminal, Thames Tideway, London Gateway Port, major pit to port studies in Ivory Coast and Liberia, an offshore fabrication yard at Porto Amboim, Angola, that includes Africa’s largest crane, PSA Rodman Phase 2 Container Terminal in Panama, Jebel Ali Terminal 4, Saudi Arabia’s Jazan Economic City Port, Tangier Med 2 Port and technical support on a variety of projects including a tidal lagoon, an LNG Terminal in Malta, a caisson breakwater in Mexico and moorings in Hong Kong.

Minimum Requirements

As the successful candidate, the following will be required for this role:

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Ideally Chartered Engineer status with either the ICE or IStructE.

  • You will also bring significant experience in managing civil/structural/infrastructure projects in the maritime sector.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Maritime design and planning, including maritime codes/standards such as BS6349, PIANC, OCIMF.

  • Experience in the design and inspection of maritime and coastal structures such as breakwaters, quay walls, lock and dock gates, sea defences, fender systems, paving, etc.

  • You will also have a strong track record in strategically improving the technical capabilities of the team
