Are you ready to lead a team of talented Economists and shape the future of Transport?
Do you have the energy and zeal to lead a dynamic team of economic consultants, working on public sector economics in Ireland? If you are interested in working on public investments that are being planned or under consideration, this job may interest you. If you have relevant experience gained in appraisal, measuring wider societal and environmental benefits, economic evaluation and significant time spent as a practicing economist, this role may suit you. We are ideally looking for a person who can work at pace in a multi-disciplinary consulting environment, with experience of winning work, growing and sustaining a business, including managing a team. The role may also suit people with relevant skills from working in the public service or industry capacity.
The economics team in Dublin is part of a 600-person transportation consulting team spread across the UK and Ireland, although its work is not only limited to transportation. Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of studies.
Each team member has a development plan to provide a clear pathway to personal development and career progression. Our clients are many and varied from both the private and public sector.
Current & Upcoming Projects:
A study on future skills needs for the Zero Carbon Economy for the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment
Research and evaluation advice for Transport Infrastructure Ireland, including development of aspects of their Project Appraisal Guidelines, evaluation of major projects, preparation of business cases and mainstreaming sustainability into transport schemes
Economics advisory services for the National Transport Authority of Ireland, including development of business cases for BusConnects and the Town Bus Services Programme
A long-term evaluation project on the introduction of sustainable travel measures in pilot “Smarter Travel Areas” in Ireland
Preliminary Business Cases for projects within the Cork Area Rail Programme and DART+ for Iarnród Éireann
Developing Economic Appraisal methods for Irish Water and the Health Services Executive
Measuring and evaluating public realm improvements in towns for various county councils
Economic analysis on tourism investment for Fáilte Ireland.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Deliver: Our projects are challenging, dynamic, and high-profile. You will demonstrate technical leadership when carrying out economic consulting projects. You possess full technical control over projects. Identify opportunities for the AECOM economics team and convert these into sales.
Oversee: You will work on all the tasks necessary to complete the primary design of engineering works and provide guidance to entry-level engineers.
Provide Expertise: Offer technical knowledge and expertise. Identify trends, issues and opportunities for economics consulting. Process technical excellence in economics and understanding its contribution to the success of the firm.
Ensure Quality: Working through the complexities of our Transportation projects, you will hold our clients’ hands and overcome problems in unison when they inevitably arise.
Collaborate: Leading a team of talented economists, you will have the technical ability, knowledge, and competence to provide guidance to teach and develop junior staff, including being a supervisor and motivator and conducting performance evaluations. As well as working and collaborating with colleagues throughout AECOM to develop and realise business growth opportunities.

Qualifications
Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Excellent technical skills in applied economics
Strong personal initiative and excellent organisation skills
Ability to convey complex economic issues to a diverse range of audiences in a clear and concise manner, using a variety of formats
Significant experience working in a similar role in a consulting firm, a relevant public sector organisation or an industry.
Preferably: Degree/Masters qualification or doctorate in an economics subject from an accredited college or university, or overall equivalent experience.
