Job Summary

The Miami Metro Area Water Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Hydrology/Hydraulics (H&H) Engineering Intern for immediate employment in the Coral Gables, FL office. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive. All technical interns at AECOM will be eligible to participate in AECOM’s intern development program. The program develops talented students through a combination of work experience, training, networking and exposure to AECOM subject matter experts. The goal of the program is to introduce AECOM and assist with building business and technical competency. Interns whose overall performance achieves AECOM’s expectations, ideally, receive a recommendation for a full-time position after graduation.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic studies

  • Development and implementation of hydraulic and hydrologic models

  • Implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated software.

  • Metadata preparation and maintenance

  • Graphic representation of data to communicate technical ideas clearly and effectively

  • Preparation of engineering related calculations and development of drawings and visual aids

Minimum Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field with emphasis in Water Resources

GPA 3.0 or higher

Preferred Qualifications

Pursuing a Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field with emphasis in Water Resources strongly preferred

Use of InfoWater, InfoWorks, ICM, HEC-RAS or HEC-HMS

Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software experience

Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) Programming

ArcGIS 10.x / ArcHydro

Python, Java script, and SQL experience

Model Builder Application Development

Knowledge of cartography, coordinate systems, and map projections

Augmented Reality (AR) with GIS

Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • EI or Ability to acquire EI

  • Strong Technical Writing skills and communication skills

  • Experience with hydraulic modeling of potable water systems

  • Experience with GIS

  • Microsoft Office Suite
