Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Engineer I for employment in the Colorado Springs, CO office. Candidate will be part of a team inspecting and monitoring highway and bridge projects at the construction site. The team will ensure that projects are built according to the plans and specifications.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists more senior level engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.

  • Performs assignments of limited scope and complexity. Uses a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems. Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Exercises judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

  • Supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work. Receives close supervision on new aspects of assignments.

Work under the direction of the Project Manager providing the following services:

  • Review drawings, specifications and manuals to prepare for the inspection. Understand the design of the construction that will be inspected.

  • Monitor general contractor and subcontractor work and progress ensuring their work meets the requirements of specifications and drawings.

  • Document the results of the inspection and documenting daily progress.

  • Conduct field measurements and establish construction project pay estimates as well as other contract administration documentation.

  • Inspect work zones for proper traffic control setup, erosion control devices and maintenance thereof, utility coordination and right-of-way issue resolution.

  • Provide guidance to field junior inspection staff when applicable

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction engineering, Civil engineering, construction management or other related field required

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models)

  • Individual should be responsible and be able to learn very quickly on the job.

  • Some travel and variable shifts may be required
