AECOM Senior MEP Estimator in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Summary

AECOM/Tishman Construction New England Region is seeking a Mechanical Estimator who will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical systems not limited to: (Fire Protection, Plumbing, HVAC and Building Automation, Electrical) estimating the most complex and large-scale jobs, including conceptual estimates, negotiated bids, budgets, general conditions, systems studies and comparisons, value engineering, subcontractor relations and staying abreast of industry developments applicable to estimating.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the estimating process runs smoothly and efficiently and client expectations are exceeded throughout the duration of the project(s); Responsible for CSI Division of 21 Fire Protection, 22 Plumbing , 23 HVAC, 26 Electrical, 27 Tel-communications, 28 Security, 28 Fire Alarm 28 Building Automation/Temperature Controls.

  • Build relationships to understand client, designer and subcontractor needs and expectations;

  • Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimate for projects;

  • Effectively facilitates collaboration amongst team members;

  • Effectively communicate with all stakeholders;

  • Participate in business development activities, presentations and interviews;

  • Prepare quantity take-offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish a value for the work;

  • Understand the full scope of the project through document review and asking questions of the design team and owner;

  • Prepare value engineering and risk analysis;

  • Prepare qualifications and assumptions for the estimate;

  • Prepare cost comparisons/reconcile with previous estimates;

  • Manage Subcontractor solicitation & selection process;

  • Prepare Exhibit A & H, and/or scope sheets;

  • Ensure quality control of bids and estimates;

  • Prepare an in-house budget and GMP;

  • Prepare quantity take-offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish a value for the work;

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture and or related building skilled trade field;

  • 10+ years of experience in Estimating, or equivalent; Able to read and take-off – Fire protection systems, Plumbing systems, HVAC systems, Electrical systems, Tel-Communication systems, BMS, Security and Fire Alarm systems.

  • 5+ years of experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator;

  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, Word, On-screen take-off, Bluebeam, Winest or other MEP related estimating software.

  • Proficient in Estimating, Project Management software;

  • Understanding of the influence of market conditions on pricing;

  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills;

  • Highly developed sense of professional ethics;
