Our Traffic and Local Roads team have a vacancy for a Traffic/ Highway Engineer in our Basingstoke office. Our large multi-discipline office is situated just a few minutes’ walk from the Station and the vibrant town centre which boasts a fantastic range of shopping and eating and drinking establishments. It is also just off the M3 by car with underground staff parking. AECOM offer flexible working and have offices in London and Southampton. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns including compressed weeks and occasional home working.
The Traffic and Local Roads team provides concept, preliminary and detailed design and network modelling on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors as well as supporting other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface.
The successful candidate will be joining a newly established team that will be involved in the winning and delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:
Local Authority Clients in the South East Region, UK and Ireland
Transport for London
London Highway Alliance Contract (North West and Central London)
Southwark Highways & Professional Services Contract
Midlands Highways Alliance
Private Contractors working on behalf of Local Authorities
The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career as part of a new team. In addition to delivering work within the local office the role will occasionally involve working with other AECOM teams in the UK and Ireland. We are therefore seeking candidates who are able to work flexibly across other AECOM offices as projects dictate to support the wider business.
Further, the role offers opportunities to work in AECOMs wider European, Middle East, India and Africa regions.
For large commissions contribute to the undertaking of appropriate deliverables for the scheme project manager and project managing small projects;
Input into the design and assessment of a range of traffic engineering and local transport schemes, including preparation of design drawings, reports and technical notes.
Demonstrate understanding of contribution to the meeting of the project brief, design regulations and standards.
Share knowledge to ensure the wider team are up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation.
Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for safety, health and environment in design.
Taking responsibility for own career and professional development. As well as, supporting the training and development of junior staff.
Support Senior Management of Local Roads team,
Contribute to client briefs, fee proposals and major bids.
You will have:
A successful track record in the delivery of a portfolio of traffic/highway engineering and local transport projects through both preliminary and / or detailed design stages.
Experience of monitoring financial and programme performance.
Experience of interacting with other disciplines as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
The ability to communicate technical concepts with professionals and lay people.
Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of relevant design standards and regulations.
Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable:
3D Design (MX or Civils 3D)
Specialist traffic/highway engineering knowledge.
Project Management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, APM).
Highways asset management, maintenance and whole life design considerations.
Appreciation of traffic modelling outputs.
CSCS Card holder.
- A relevant degree or HND and membership of a professional institution and working towards an appropriate Chartered or Incorporated status.
